Fire Sentry SS4 Flame Detectors
The Fire Sentry SS4 family of electro-optical flame detectors uses advanced UV and UV/IR technology to provide fast, reliable flame detection with excellent immunity to false alarms. These detectors are now obsolete and have been replaced by the Honeywell FS20X Flame Detector.
Fire Sentry SS4-A
The SS4-A is a multi-spectrum UV/IR flame detector that monitors ultraviolet (UV), visible (VIS), and wide-band infrared (IR) radiation to detect a wide variety of fires while minimising false alarms.
Fire Sentry SS4-AS
The SS4-AS uses UV, visible, and infrared sensing technology to provide reliable detection of hydrogen, ethanol, methanol, methane, and other flame types. It is designed to detect Type A, B, and C flaming fires.
Fire Sentry SS4-AUV
The SS4-AUV is a UV-only flame detector designed to detect radiant energy in the ultraviolet spectrum for fast flame detection.
FireLogic Signal Processing
FireLogic technology analyses ultraviolet, visible, and infrared radiation simultaneously before declaring a fire, helping eliminate false alarms caused by sunlight, hot objects, and other radiation sources.
Operation
The Fire Sentry SS4 detectors operate on a standard 24 VDC power supply and interface with approved fire alarm panels or PLC systems. On power-up, the detector performs a self-test and continuously monitors for fire conditions.
- 24 VDC operating voltage.
- Automatic self-test on power-up.
- Front LED flashes every 10 seconds to indicate normal operation.
- Microprocessor continuously analyses spectral sensor data.
- Activates alarm relay when a fire is detected.
- Stores pre-fire spectral data using Fire Pic™ technology for post-event analysis.

Communication
As part of the FS2000 System, the SS4 family communicates with the CM1-A Controller through a four-wire bi-directional RS-485 FireBus network.
