The Drager Polytron SE Ex is a fixed Flammable Gas Detector fitted with a catalytic bead sensor measuring 0-100% LEL. The output is an mV signal, which varies according to gas concentration; the connection to a central controller is by a three-core cable. Suitable for deployment in hazardous areas.

Drager sensors are designed to respond quickly and provide temperature and poison resistance. The measurement is based on the heat of reaction principle, where a chemical reaction occurs in a catalytic bead (so-called pellistor) inside the sensor. Three types are available: PR, a standard 0-100% LEL; HT, a high-temperature version (up to 150 °C); and LC, a low-concentration version (0-10% LEL) suitable for leak detection.

Models vary by the size of the sensor junction box.

• M2 – standard midsize housing – used for outdoors (stopper installed inside the gland, cable insertion at the bottom)
• M3 – large GRP plastic housing
• NPT1 – flame-proof metal housing used with conduit installs
• Housing: Glass-fibre reinforced Polyester (GRP) or Aluminium NPT1.
